We endeavor to collect as little information from you as possible and still produce an enjoyable product and allows us to interact with customers in a way that they find acceptable.

Data I Collect When You Visit My Website

Third party server - My website is hosted on a third-party Virtual Private Server physically located inside the United States and operated by Wix. You can find their Privacy Policy here.

IP Addresses - When you visit a website, the server has to know your IP address in order to send the information to you. That IP address can reveal certain information about you such as your internet service provider and location. If you concerned about revealing your IP address, you can use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service that will allow you to mask your originating IP because it will communicate a different IP address to website hosts.

 

Server Log Files - As a part of the operation of the website, the server tracks basic information about visitors, including, but not limited to, IP addresses, browser details, timestamps and pages visited. The information is tracked for routine administration, maintenance and security purposes. We access the logs only for the purposes of troubleshooting technical issues, not for visitor identification issues, and routinely delete the log files. No permanent record of user usage is maintained.

 

Cookies - Cookies are a standard part of website design and are used to remember things about a user to enhance their experience. For example, cookies remember links that you have previously clicked and change the color of those links. Since cookies are pieces of data stored on your computer (not on our server), you can disable cookies in your web browser if you do not wish us to utilize this information. Disabling cookies for all sites is not recommended as it may interfere with your use of some sites. The best option is to disable or enable cookies on a per-site basis. Consult your browser documentation for instructions on how to block cookies and other tracking mechanisms. 

 

Personal Data You Volunteer

Through optional features on the website, you may volunteer additional personal data:

Email Newsletter - We offer a newsletter service to offer a better customer service experience for those website visitors who desire it. The newsletter is strictly optional and you can utilize all parts of the website without it.

 

Our newsletter services are managed by a third-party company, Mailerlite, and they store information about newsletter subscribers on their servers. That information includes the email address, name (optional - if a subscriber provides it), emails sent, the interaction with those emails. and the interaction with our website. Their privacy policy can be found at https://www.mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. Subscribers may - and do - receive different communications based on their history of interaction.

Note that we do not maintain any of this data on our own servers.

 

Comments - If you leave a comment on one of a posts, we collect your name, email address and, potentially, your website as well as the comment itself. Your name and a link to your website (if applicable) as well as your comment are posted for other visitors to read. Your email address is stored on our server but is not publicly visible.

Contact Form - If you contact our authors via a contact page, we collect your name, email address and comment. This information is stored on our servers and emailed directly to me. After I read (and respond as appropriate), the email is deleted. Periodically, I delete all the history of contact form submissions from the server.

 

How I Use The Data

We will only use your Personal Data where the law allows. Most commonly, I use your Personal Data to:

  • process and manage your use of my website;

  • respond to your questions, comments and requests;

  • where you have opted-in to receive marketing from us, deliver communications that are relevant to your preferences / may be of interest to you;

  • develop targeting criteria and custom audience generation, primarily working with third parties such as Facebook and Google;

  • improve our services and Website through analysis of information.

 

We will use and store your Personal Data only for as long as necessary, bearing in mind the uses of your Personal Data as described in this privacy policy and otherwise as communicated to you. We review the Personal Data we hold at regular intervals and delete permanently or anonymize any Personal Data that is no longer necessary.

We utilize a handful of third-parties that collect data. We have no access to that raw data and any requests for information need to be directed to them.

 

Tracking - We use the following tools to provide analytics about who visits our website. We can not see individuals, but receive aggregated information about what articles are visited, where the visitors come from, and demographic information. This information is helpful for developing new material for the website and in attracting new visitors.

 

Google Analytics - Google Analytics is one of the most widespread and trusted analytics solution on the web for helping to understand how you use the site and ways that we can improve your experience. Note Google offers a download for your browser that will block the use of Google Analytics on all websites.

 

Facebook - We utilize the Facebook Pixel to assist in developing targeted advertising on Facebook. We receive no user specific information from this reporting. Facebook's privacy information can be at https://about.facebook.com/actions/protecting-privacy-and-security/.

 

Amazon - We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. The specific products featured in amazon advertisement are based on the key topics on the webpage plus your previous interactions on Amazon. We will also periodically mention a specific product and link to their website, clearly labeled as an "affiliate link." WeI may be paid a commission based on sales generated, but receive no details about individual purchasers. Also note that your prices are not impacted by utilizing the affiliate links.
